What a jam packed weekend it has been for Team Nemesis. Unfortunately Brayden Summers did not fight on the event because his opponent pulled out due to injury and was unable to find an opponent. No matter, as Im sure Brayden has many more fights to come. AFC is the new kid on the block and decided rather than starting with a small show, they decided that they would not pull any punches and open with one of the biggest MMA shows melbourne has seen. The show itself was well organised and professional. It was an impressive production and I look forward to seeing more events like this in the future. If the first show was anything to go by, AFC will soon become Australia’s #1 MMA promotion.
Kenny had another war against a tough opponent from Ian Bones gym; Damien Brown. The first round saw Kenny defending the rear naked from an unrelenting Damien. The 2nd and 3rd round was a little closer, with Kenny securing a number of takedowns and position reversals. It was a constant back and fourth struggle between both fighters, but Damien took the fight on a judges point decision.
Masa Doi took on Ritchie Whitson, who appeared in the Ultimate Fighter 9 TV series was in for a tough fight. This fight would have been one of the most exciting fights of the nights with both fighters going toe to toe with each other. Neither wanted to back down, with both of them trading with some heavy hands. Unluckily Masa came off second best in the final exchange and got caught with a big left hook in Rd 1 which saw the fight awarded to Ritchie.
Even though it may not have been a good night in the office for Team Nemesis, we have learnt from our mistakes and it’s fights like these that make the team stronger. We knew that we had tough fights on our hands and those are the fights we like to take. We pride ourselves on training hard and taking the tough fights, because those are the ones that count.
Huge thanks to the crew at AFC who put on a fantastic promotion. Thankyou to everyone who came down to support our fighters and training partners in the lead up to the fight.
